The H. Carl Moultrie Courthouse is the largest in Judiciary Square. The building, located at 500 Indiana Avenue, NW, was originally built in the early 1970’s and is now one of the busiest courts in the country. Renovations and 176,000 square feet of new construction included Judicial and administrative spaces comprising 6 New Courtrooms, Chambers for 21 Judges, New Holding spaces, Offices, and New Public spaces. The Courthouse was open six days a week and remained fully operational during construction. Keeping the old systems running was of the utmost importance. To ensure minimization of disturbances, work was phased and coordinated with court activities. For the new systems Welch and Rushe, Inc. fabricated and installed piping for the following; Sanitary waste & vent, storm, natural gas, domestic water, hot and chilled water, steam condensate, and refrigeration piping.
- Furnished and installed HAVC equipment: 2 – 300-ton Chillers, 6 – Air Handling Units, 9- Unit heaters, 80 -VAV Boxes
- 3- Chilled Pumps, 3 – Condenser Water Pumps, 3 – Hot Water pumps, 5 – Steam Humidifiers, VFD’s, 11 – Fans, 1 – 863-ton cooling tower.
- Furnished and installed Plumbing Fixtures/Equipment: 61 – Water Closets, 53 – Lavatories, 11- Urinals, 15 Pantry Sinks, 12 – Drinking Fountains
- 4 – Domestic Water Heaters, 1 – Rainwater Harvesting System and 1 – Filtration system.
